Dr. Devorah A. Lieberman

Dr. Devorah Lieberman is the Vice Provost and Special Assistant to the President at Portland State University in Oregon. In 1970, while living in Covina, she attended Mt. SAC and majored in speech communication. Later, she completed her doctorate in Speech at the University of Florida. 

As an administrator and faculty member at Portland State University, Dr. Lieberman teaches courses in intercultural communication and mentoring. At the university, she is responsible for three campuswide initiatives: diversity, student advising, and assessment. 

As testament to her achievements, she received the "Carnegie/CASE 1999 Oregon Professor of the Year" award and the "1999 Portland State Faculty Service Award". Her numerous publications on faculty development have appeared in national journals, books, and monographs. Dr. Lieberman is dedicated to the Latino community throughout Oregon. 

For years, she has volunteered as a board member of the Oregon Council for Hispanic Advancement, a statewide organization that represents the Oregon Latino Community. Dr. Lieberman authored a grant to begin a Latino mentoring program for 250 Latino high school students and since the program’s inception, it has expanded to six higher education institutions throughout Oregon. 

The work of this program has been recognized by two awards the Si Se Puede Award and the Amistad Award.
