Born in Arkansas, Gary Miller grew up in Whittier and attended Mt. SAC in the 1960s. By his early 20's Mr. Miller started his first company, the G. Miller Development Company which eventually branched into four successful construction companies that build single family and custom homes. In 1967, Congressman Miller joined the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War. In 1982, Mr. Miller was asked to serve on the Board of Directors of Sonrise Christian School and was later appointed to the Diamond Bar Municipal Advisory Council in 1988. He was elected to the first city council and served as Mayor to the City of Diamond Bar in 1992.

Mr. Miller’s legislative career began in 1995 when he was elected to the California State Assembly and within eight months was elevated to the Chair of the Assembly Budget committee, one of the most important posts in the State Legislature. He also served as the Chairman of the Budget Committee and the Banking and Finance Committee, as well as Vice Chair of the Transportation Committee.

During his Assembly career, he authored 24 bills signed into law and successfully negotiated funding for the first Class Size Reduction program. He was elected to serve as United States Congressional representative for the 42nd District in 1998 and serves on the powerful Financial Services Committee where he specializes in housing and financial markets issues, the Science Committee, and the Budget Committee. He also serves the House as an Assistant Whip, the Chairman of the Building a Better America Caucus and the Highway Infrastructure and Transportation Caucus.

As a state Assemblyman, Mr. Miller was instrumental in helping Mt. San Antonio College secure $17 million in state funding to construct a Performing Arts Center, and funding for the Colleges’ renovated Learning Technology Center.

The Congressman, his wife Cathy, and three children live in Diamond Bar.
