In the auto world, Pete Reynolds’s name is synonymous with “Buick.” He founded Reynolds Buick in Covina in 1950 and served many years as President of one of the most successful GM dealerships in the country.

Mr. Reynolds shares a unique history with Mt. SAC. He was among the 623 students who enrolled at the College when it opened in 1946, and he was a member of the first graduating class. So today’s 60th Commencement takes on special meaning for Mr. Reynolds as both a unique reunion and a highly personal milestone. After Mt. SAC, young Pete went on to graduate from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley and served in the U.S. Navy for three years during WW II.

Over the past 60 years, Mr. Reynolds has maintained strong ties with his first alma mater. He has served on the Mt. SAC Foundation Board of Directors, and was a charter member of the President’s Circle (leadership giving) as well as the Mt. SAC Athletic Hall of Fame (1992). He has also been a corporate sponsor of the world-renowned Mt. SAC Relays and chaired the Mt. SAC Foundation Golf Tournament.

An auto industry leader, Mr. Reynolds is past President of the Southern California Buick Dealers Association and the Southern California GMC Truck Association. He was among a select group of 12 elite GM dealers who helped General Motors form the Saturn Corporation.

Active in the community, Mr. Reynolds is considered a “favorite son” of the City of Covina, where he grew up and continues to serve in many capacities. He has served as President of Intercommunity Hospital Men’s Club, Board Chairman of First Federal Savings and Loan, Vice President of the Azusa Valley Water Company, and member of the Covina Rotary and a member of the Hearst Foundation.

For his many community involvements, Mr. Reynolds has been widely recognized with numerous honors, including “Citizen of the Year” (1989) by the Covina Chamber of Commerce, the Citrus Valley Medical Center Inter-Community Outstanding Citizen of the Year (2003), and the Laband Award (2003) with his wife, Caroline.

Pete Reynolds is a model citizen, an accomplished business leader, and a loyal supporter and friend of Mt. San Antonio College. The institution is proud to recognize him as one of its Distinguished Alumni of the Year on the occasion of its historic 60th Anniversary.
