The Tasse Godinez Garmong Memorial Scholarship
Tasse Godinez Garmong
1982 - 2021
Tasse Godinez Garmong was a beloved member of the Mt. SAC forensics team from 2000 - 2002, and all who saw her perform were captivated by her talent. Tasse won so many awards while on the team that it is impossible to list them all here, but here are a few of the highlights:
2002 AFA Dramatic Duo Champions w/ Rafael Agustin
2001 Phi Ro Pi Interpreters Theatre Bronze for Word w/ Allen Axibal and Tyler Adams
2001 Phi Ro Pi Oral Interpretation Bronze
2001 Phi Ro Pi Oral Interpretation Bronze
2001 Phi Ro Pi Duo Interpretation Bronze w/ Brian Redfern
2001 Phi Ro Pi Prose Interpretation Bronze
Most notably, she was part of two national championship teams and is one of the few community college students to ever win a national AFA-NST championship.
Although her bright light burned out too soon, she accomplished plenty with the time she had. After graduating from San Francisco State, Tasse returned to Mt. SAC to complete her nursing degree, eventually becoming a nurse as well as a wife and mom. Even with so much on her plate, she continued to dance, sing, and find other creative outlets every chance she got.
After Tasse transferred from Mt. SAC, her younger sister and brother (Kayla Briseno and Joey Godinez) followed her lead by joining the Mt. SAC Forensics Team. With all three Godinez children participating in forensics at various points, the Godinez family holds a special place in Mt. SAC Forensics history. This scholarship was founded as a way to help them honor Tasse’s memory and pay it forward to another shining star in forensics.
