Douglas Craven

Douglas Craven’s relationship with Mt. SAC began in the early 1990s, when he was first a student here. After a career path that included funeral homes and big rigs, he found himself back and ready to pursue his dream: teaching. Being back at Mt. SAC after thirty years was eye-opening for Douglas, and he found himself invigorated by all the new perspectives he learned from his classmates, many of whom were decades younger than him.

Being on campus and in classrooms reminded Douglas how much he had always loved not just learning, but schools. His father was an inspirational educator, and Douglas wanted to follow his example so he joined the Teacher Prep Institute (TPI) at Mt. SAC. There, he formed important relationships with both the staff and his fellow TPIers. That experience solidified for Douglas that teaching was the path for him.

The student population at Mt. SAC is diverse in race and ethnicity as well as age. Douglas’s experience reveals the breadth of support available to all Mt. SAC students and underscores the College’s belief that it’s never too late to chase your dreams.
