Alumni Stories: Samuel A. Dominick, Jr.
What are you doing now?
I am a Fire Captain/Paramedic for the City of La Verne Fire Department. I have been a member of the department for 22 1/2 years, the past 15 1/2 as a full-time firefighter. For my first seven years, I was a Reserve/Apprentice (Volunteer) Firefighter. In addition to my normal duties, I am the Apprentice/Firefighter Coordinator, a member of the Apparatus and Equipment Committee, and I am on the Instructor Cadre for our Probationary Firefighter Academy. Additionally, I have been instructing both in Mt. SAC’s Fire academy as a Lead/Lecture Instructor and on campus as an Adjunct Faculty member since 2003.
How did your Mt. SAC experience impact your journey?
I graduated from Mt. SAC's 15th Fire Academy and earned an A.S. Degree in Fire Technology and and A.S. Degree in Emergency Medical Services.
My classwork prepared me for higher education by challenging me in General Education and my major field of Fire Technology. The professional instructors in the Fire Academy taught me the basic firefighting skills that would prepare me for a future career in the fire service and give me a head start in attaining my dream job.
