Dr. Martha Garcia
Mt. SAC
Tenth President & CEO
Bio
I am honored and excited to serve as the 10th President/CEO and as the first President of color at the largest single-campus community college in California. I am driven to serve the students, whose experiences reflect my own. I was the first in my family to pursue higher education, getting my start at a community college. I went on to serve as Special Projects Coordinator, Acting Vice President of Academic Services, Vice President of Student Services, and, eventually, Superintendent/President of that community college—Imperial Valley College. I am the proud daughter of farmworkers, both from Mexico, who immigrated so their children could have better opportunities in life. I am committed to the transformative power of higher education and student-centered leadership. The values I learned from my parents—hard work, perseverance, honesty, and respect—guide and inspire me.
Why Mt. SAC?
In my role as President/CEO, I am committed to the mission of the Mt. SAC Foundation. Students are the focus of my work—I have devoted much of my time to small- and large-scale initiatives focused on students, from creating a tiny housing community and student food pantry and distribution program on campus to securing more than $23 million in grants to support the creation of innovative programs and services for students.
